Is all the “technology” put into Running Shoes actually beneficial/functional?

You hear all these fancy, schmany terms like zigtech (Reebok), nike freeruns or air max 360, duomax/trustic system (Asics), Bounce (adidas) that the general public accepts. “Oh since it’s from these big brand Shoe companies, they must know what they’re talking about”, but I’m a little skeptical. Do these “actually” provide any visible advantages? All these shoes just add more and more cushioning or start removing it and it just seems like bullshit to me.

I just switched to a minimal shoe from vibram, and I really like how they feel like wearing socks, minus the weird looks I get. I have a couple old pairs of shoes from vans and asics, and I just took out the sole because it felt better.

I’m getting a pair of either the New Balance minimus trail or wellness because they look normal and feel great!

Some shoe tech is better than others. What you really should focus on is your musculoskeletal health. (did I spell that right) I recommend shoes that are comfortable and good arch support is a must. shoes that lend themselves to proper foot/ankle alignment will affect joint alignment all the way to your back and shoulders.

As for the energy return in different shoe/sole tech, a good place to look for info is magazines like popular science, consumer reports and others. Look for unbiased info, remember these companies pay for good reviews.
